Thank you for the insight into your exciting project Fernanda, I am working on the discourse on Africa in German-language cultural magazines in the second half of the 19th century and see many similarities. However, my material is not yet completely digitized, so I would be interested in your combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis, perhaps you can say something more about this at the workshop. In addition, I am particularly interested in the role of literature within the media practices of the imaginary, especially the interplay between scientific and journalistic modes of writing in travel writing and the literary genre of the adventure novel, but also in the role of visual media such as maps, wood engravings, photographs, and advertisements. We could perhaps discuss this as well.
