Der vorliegende Band versammelt die Ergebnisse der zweiten internationalen Konferenz der DFG-Forschergruppe 2288 »Journalliteratur«. Die Beiträge untersuchen Journale des späteren 18. bis frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, wobei die konkrete Materialität der Erscheinungsform sowie deren rezeptionssteuernde Potentiale den methodischen Ausgangspunkt bilden. Die spezifische Temporalität und Materialität von Journalen steuert Prozesse der Bedeutungsgenerierung und ‑überlagerung, deren Voraussetzungen und Kontexte ebenso untersucht werden wie ihre Folgen. Der Zusammenhang von Journalmaterialität, visuellen und temporalen Formatlogiken und Lektürepraktiken bildet das Zentrum von »Lektüreabbruch – Anschlusslektüren: Journale lesen«.

This volume proceeds from the second international conference of the DFG Research Unit 2288 »Journal Literature«. The contributions examine periodicals from the late 18th to the early 20th century, taking as a methodological starting point the materiality of the published form and its potential to condition reception. The specific temporality and materiality of periodicals shape processes of generation and superimposition of meaning; here, both the conditions and consequences of these processes are explored. The connection between materiality, visual and temporal logics of format, and reading practices is the key focus of »Reading Journals: Coherence and Interruption«.
